I am going to be running out of cig tobacco. I still have ample cigar stored. All I am growing this year is cig. Big gem !!! I am going to air dry it all and crank up my kiln for some good cig tobacco.

Aha so you are both a cigarette and Cigar smoker. Do you smoke Big Gem alone or do you prefer a mix better?!?

I have high praise for big gem as a mild tobacco. but I smoke every single variety I have grown in every mixture or by its self. I am looking for my big gem seeds if I still have any. I started a tray of 72 plants today but no big gem yet. I love the plant , it has huge leaves and is very hardy as is most tobacco plants.

I have a wonderful veggie garden going. 1 row of red potataoes, 12 beefmaster or bigboy tomatoe plants, 6 rows of sweetcorn, 2 rows of roma beans and 2 rows of purplehull peas. I have my baccy in the works, I had to enlarge my garden.

Although I can't compete on the egg front, I do have 7 Big Beef tomatoes (for me alone) beginning to blossom on my front porch. This morning was likely the last frost danger of the season. So they will be uncovered today, and go out to the garden this week.

Bob, I see ya'll are still getting some serious cold fronts where you are. I planted everything a bit later this year. I made salsa out of all my tomatoes last year. I have 2 quarts left. I plan on preserving again this year, my 50 quarts from previously are about gone. I open jars from 2013 and they smell and taste as good as when they were preserved.

On a side note, for the last 3 years the deer have cleaned me out comepletly on my beans and peas so my new stategy this year is to put a radio in the greenhouse playing country, if that don't work i will go heavy metal heh heh.

If you are able to smell and taste anything a day after eating 5 year old canned salsa, then I would call that success.

You eat the deer. The deer eat your beans and peas. That's nature's balance. I don't eat the deer, but they still eat my beans and peas. That really sucks.

Bob, It would be a cold day in hell when I could dispute you, heh heh. I wouldn't harm a hair on their head out of season. My neighbor goes to extremes with temporary fence and electric fence. I always figured just plant enough for me and them , they changed the rules by cleaning me out. I need to adapt without creating a lot of work.
Thats 5 new young hens in the pen.

My salsa can't make it through the year, I freeze after cooking , and trade for favors and eat it my self. My canned tomatoes do last that long.The lids have never even corrupted after that long but do not save, heh heh. {the lids}

Blackberry season is here so I need to go pick a big can full enough so my sweetheart neighbor can make us both a cobbler. I call her sweetheart because for 80 years old she is pretty sweet.

7 Tomato plants will produce a lot of salsa heh heh. I used to do 25 plants but my fingers are in way to many pies now to deal with that many.

Well, over the past few years, my tomatoes have had early blight, late blight, in between blight, and an assortment of other blights. This season, I chose to start Big Beef, which has more resistance letters than the alphabet. We'll see if it makes any difference.

Not to beat a dead horse I added scrambled egg shells to all my tomato plants this year. I heard the extra calcium helps prevent bottom rot. we'll see.

Your plot is looking very nice. I pickled beets every year and do salsa every year unfortunately I always end up giving most of it away and it makes the wife mad seeing me give away all my hard work but I enjoy doing it this year I’m making a surplus

I am very heavy into the food share program. I can do what a lot of people cant because of my property and my time. I enjoy it.I have been having to stradle my time though.

I could go on and on about people helping other people , but that is not what turns me on. When I have an abundance, I like to share. If I have just enough for me, I dont share. plain and simple. I NEVER give my money away.
I just spend it on stuff thats realy cool. Usually new tools , and materials. This is my hobby shop.

The center dolly is pecan, I started working that today and it is work. I am cleaning it up a bit oversized for stacking neatly and make it easier later.
90% of the lumber in my shop is homegrown and home milled.

I finally got this cluster .... cleaned up today and am resituating tools and tables.

Those 10' x 18" pecan boards take almost an hour a piece. they are 6 years old and completly dried [air dried] and unfortunately I will have a lot of waste do to bad knots and the sawmill cuts.
