The chapstick on the Ebonite and vulcanite helps keep it from oxidizing as quickly, and as Bob mentioned the caranuba takes a buffer

I got a tub of caranuba that has a solvent it it. You apply it and buff by hand and then the solvent evaporates leaving just the buffed wax behind at which point you can polish it up a bit more - might be good no? Bought it for the car originally.

What is the solvent? Is it toxic? Does it leave a residue (that would, of course, be harmless to your car)? Do you want to put it into your mouth?

Solvent is 'silicone fluids' would appear to be non-toxic and fairly inert. They vapourise leaving the wax behind as the only residue. With sufficient time for the silicone oil to cook off/ vaporize I think I'm ok with it. I'll try it and see on one of my crappier estates and report back flavour wise.

pure caranuba is harder than some plastics, I'm sure your product has caranuba in it, I'm just not sure if it will off you the full protection
