Red Russian TC 588 PDF There's a long story behind this one. Basically, it's the oldest N.tabacum variety I can find in the data base. The name has changed and there is no information on it. Through a little bit of research, I've found it is a naturally occuring variety in South America, though Central America and into Mexico. Could very well be one of the original tobacco varieties. It's former name was Macrophylla Purpurea. It has been the used in many experiments in crossing, but it is aknowelaged as a true N. Tabacum.

You have to read all Don's posts, some things got changed during the thread.

Is there something buried in the thread that isn't in the first post?

Does something need to be clarified?

All of the information you need to know should be in the first post of that thread. Please let me know if there is something missing.

No, you are right. You edited the post and it is all up to date now. I remember you changing the SASE to a $2.00 fee but forgot you had made the edit. Sorry my bad. Old age.

The $2 covers the cost of the padded envelope (kind of silly sending a self addressed stamped padded envelope) and the cost of postage.

Anything left over will pay for my cruise to the Bahamas.

I sent some seed out in a regular envelope with some of that small bubble wrap folded over the little seed bag. I got good reports on the condition of the seed and a whole roll of wrap will cost about the same as two padded envelopes. You may want to look into that. I received seed from New Hope seed this way and that's why I tried it. Michibachy said the seed I sent him arrived in excellent shape with none crushed.

I just slip a cig filter in each seed bag. Good results in several shipments. And only 42 cents. -- J

Don, It's your game, you make the rules. $2 isn't too much to ask for product safety. If you were sending out Sugar Snap Pea seeds it'd be different, those are a dime a dozen. Tobacco seeds the way they are, are becoming scarce. I'd say the extra dedication to product handling/packaging is well worth it. The seeds I am sending out are double wrapped in plastic to add a bit of cushioning, those padded envelopes do work nicely though ,we use them at my office to ship out ceramic/brittle parts.

Keep up the good work

Thank you all for your donations to the seed bank.

Ishi brings up a good point...

Please include the number of years the seed you are donating has been grown in that location.

It probably won'tbethisyear, but peraps next...I'll do a side by side comparison grow of the same variety from two locations furthest from each other.
