I was smoking some HH Old Dark Fired and realized it was like poking a bear with a stick, it's fun but man it can give you a wallop, so I thought I needed a smaller bowl for it, so I figured I try and make one I used a 5/8 chamber about 1 1/4 deep and one flake fill the bowl just below the top
I didn't lock down my vise when I drilled the chamber and my whole vise moved forward so the chamber ended up a bit off center and if you notice the draft hole goes through the bottom in it put a ding in the outter wall of the chamber

That's a great pipe for just your third go at it. I really like that style of pipe and the size looks perfect. Good job, man!

yeah, I have a ten inch drill press, I make my own bits for drill the chamber out of a spade bit, and after I drill all chamber, draft hole and mortise, I do a rough cut on a bandsaw, or it would be easy with a coping saw , and then if the shape allows I used a disc/belt sander combo to get even closer then I have a set of rasps and files and a pile of sand paper

I think anyone with a little wood working skill and some patience could learn how to make a pipe, I can't wait till my "Pipe crafting at home" book arrives from Pimo

I have one. If you've been on the forum for awhile you won't find much new information in it. I wish I had spent that money on briar blocks instead.

about half way through my Pimo book, and yeah your right it isn't all that helpful although I am finding some useful information, I don't read a lot of books but if I was to give a review i would say this one is poorly written and it seems as in an attempt to make the book sound technical they went overboard and made it more confusing than needed, oh well thats my opinion, I'm sure someone else would have a different one

For someone that hasn't found the pipe making forum the book would be a great first time introduction. But looking in the gallery and watching videos and having your questions answered is way better than the book. I had learned so much from reading on the forum that by the time I bought the book, I had already covered everything in it. I finally got in some briar blocks so now my real hands on education can start. Yipppeeee
