I was thinking about planting some Maryland tobacco this year for the first time, and I am trying to decide which variety to grow. I have narrowed it down to Catterton or Keller. Can anyone provide any information about these two varieties?

thanks,

I grew both side-by-side in 2012. Catterton is somewhat taller and more upright than Keller, and seems a bit more productive. Both produced light-brown color-cured leaf--the Catterton lighter than the Keller. Both are mild and smooth, and kiln to a light-to-medium brown. My impression is that the Keller has a more interesting, nuttier flavor than the Catterton.

If I were planting either of them, I suspect I would go with the Keller because of its nicer flavor when smoked alone. For blending, the flavor and aroma of either is likely to be dominated by other components.
