Gentlemen,

Please be aware that the ranting of irrationality on other sites has and will never have a bearing on what this site is intended for.

If you don't know the story, I will tell it again now.

A couple of years ago, I joined another How To Grow Tobacco sites on the internet. When I joined, there might have been a couple of hundred members. Everyone had the same goal in common...growing tobacco for personal use.

At some point, a new member joined who was vastly familiar with how the tobacco industry worked. It was then that the true story of the tobacco industry was told.

The retail price of one pound of manufactured cigarettes costs from $125 -200 per pound. The Federal government gets about $25 per pound without touching the tobacco. The tobacco farmer gets about $2.00 per pound for starting the seed and plowing the fields. Then, he must buy fertilizer, insecticides, pay for farm hands to set the plants, pay the loan on the tractor, buy fuel, pay property taxes, pay school levies, pay local taxes, pay, pay, pay and then pay some more.

The cigarette producers make the other $100 per pound from the same leaf they pay the farmers $2 for.

Now we have a lunatic ranting about how it is illegal to sell whole leaf. His rantings are doing nothing but depriving a man from his way of living. Tobacco farmers grow tobacco....that's what they do, and for any man to stand in the way of another man's right to make a living is just plain WRONG.

Like I say in the "rules" for this site..."I don't have to make any rules. We're all adults here, we already know the rules". How is it...Why is it that a man would be so devoted to deprive another man of his legal right to grow and sell tobacco?

None of us were born yesterday, the only reason the foolishness is going on is to eliminate the competition or to fulfill the work of outside sources. Am I accusing Roy and Lonnie of working for big tobacco? Of course not, (but I got you thinking...didn't I?) Big tobacco has a lot to lose from people growing their own tobacco...like billions of dollars. I wouldn't put it past big tobacco to try something like Lonnie and Roy are doing...holy shit...am I starting to sound like them?

Paranoia is contagious, it's time to jump ship before you sink with the captain and his first mate.

I think a little paranoia is a good thing, being to complacent can be dangerous or leave you vulnerable because you didn't see something coming. I've been trying for years to learn how to read between the lines. It's an effort to do so, but if you take everything at face value be ready for the hammer to fall. Don't know who said it but {don't believe anything you hear and only half of what you see}. I agree 100% on protecting the tiny slice of the pie your referring to from big buisness and govt. regulation. I'ts all we have left and we work hard for it. {I'm not opposed to big buisness unless it directly affects me or mine as is the case here}. Great post, got me thinking. .... {edit}....I spent a day and many phone calls chasing down The right govt. agency to talk to till I landed at USDA. Then several more call transfers to get to the head of USDA. I gave my name and phone so he could call back after running down answers to my questions. It took several days for him to get back to me. He even checked with dept. of Health to be sure. He found no regulations in texas to prohibit the sale of whole leaf tobacco, and gave me the go ahead.

That exactly right Fmgrowit !!!

All they have to do is check things out, call for themselves . I did , I have called openingly with my name in full to the Attorney general and the TTB . I have also contacted the USDA . I did this with these places knowing exactly who I was. I am not hiding anything . I want them to know whom I am , I will not hide like a coward they are .

My email to the Attorney general included my full name and address . I am waiting on my email back from them . They said on the phone , that whole leaf was legal to sell and reffered me to the TTB and how they say that whole leaf was legal to sell .

I just need the email for written conformation .

Geesh, what a ridiculous thread over there. Sure are wasting a hell of a lot of energy and bandwidth on a topic that is irrelevant to that particular site.....where discussions of such activities are "not allowed". lmao

I never could find any factual info. on the selling of whole leaf on the numerous tobacco sites I explored till I landed here through wtb.com. Thats when I got serious and did my own research. Why? So I could grow my own and sell or trade any surplus without looking over my shoulder. Its the american way right. I have no doubts in my mind on the legality of what I am doing.

I believe that Lonnie is quite sane, but seriously frightened at the thought of the staggering imbalance between the power of a citizen and the power of a government. He's seeking iron-clad proof that it's OK to sell whole leaf. Since iron-clad proof never exists in the world of laws and the written policies of governmental agencies--there are always some vaguely defined terms that require litigation for clarification, his opinion is unlikely to be swayed by the multiple examples of unconcerned agencies. Harping is justified when there is a clear indication that it is not legal. That appears not to be the case.

As for Roy, his decisions and comments simply reflect his fear of imagined legal consequences of his (or his forum's) stepping into the fray.

I can't fault either. I just find the misinterpretation of the status of current law unfortunate, on so popular a forum as HTGT.

Southern Washington State I can see Oregon from my
I've been following this thing ever since it started. The one thing that I fear about all of this is that if the Government get's
wind of something being sold with out there cut in tax revenues. That the Obama
administration will leave no stone unturned until they Tax it,regulate it and take control of it.
When I hear of government officials realizing that something is being sold without taxes involved
all I see is a government bureaucrat sitting there with a light bulb going off above there head with the realization
that they could score brownie points if they inform there bosses that there is something else to tax.
It is my opinion that every one of those junior commie socialists in Washington have one goal and that is to spend spend spend tax tax tax
Especially now with this damn ass budget debate going on.

I read all the above and agree with most of it (certainly the Tax, TaX, TAX comments). Be assured if we are at all successful they will find a way to tax it.

That said, a couple of light comments --

A fellow by the name of Sam Clemens (Mark Twain) said years ago, "If you don't read the news paper you are uninformed. If you do read the news paper you are misinformed." With the rapid dissemination of information (fact or fancy) on the internet we might be well advised to read, reread and then read between the lines.

Finally, The fact that I am paranoid doesn't mean that they aren't all out to get me. ; < ))

it really baffles me at the ignorance some people have about tobaccoo,,,,

ive encountered those that think it's il-legal to grow it,,,,,,,il-legal to sell it personally,,,,,e,t,c,

i correct all of them,,,,,and yesterday gave a friend a nice assortment of seeds. hopefully pulling him off the grid of paying high taxes for something you can produce,

and by word of mouth,,,one telling 2 and 2 telling 4 e.t.c.

perhaps we can end this war the gov, has on baccy,,,,

That's just a completely ignorant statement that you can't sell your tobacco. You can sell your tobacco in any form you want. As long as you have the proper license, you can even sell cigarettes made from your home grown tobacco. Whole leaf sales requires no license at all. If you sell within your State, you need a vendors license and you have to charge State sales tax (and then give it to the State).

Beware of the sheep in wolves clothing!

It might just be me, but it seems like every time the left get's into office, they go so far left the the right has to move a little left to not be so viewed as too extreme. I've been a register democrat all my life and I swear, I'm more republican than any of the "Republicans" running for office.

Today's Republicans have policies much more like Kennedy than Eisenhower.
