I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this question, but what is casing when it comes to tobacco? I have searched for an explanation, but nothing came up. I have seen the term used in many posts. Ken

I'll take a stab at a definition. Casing is a water-based solution containing flavorings and/or sugars that is sprayed on cured tobacco, usually before either toasting (at temps that might carmelize the sugars) or re-drying at lower temps. Anything sprayed on after toasting or drying would be called "topping."

Go to Forum home page. Select "how to grow tobacco" scroll down and there will be one header for casing and one for toasting. Great recipes and techniques. Read contents of both headers as they tend to weave back and forth with each other. There will be casing advice in toasting threads and vice versa.

Case Is a little different than casings
Casings Are Glycerene , licorice , sugar , honey , chocolate ,or any flavorings added to shredded tobacco .
Case , is moisture in whole leaf tobacco . Dry crumbly tobacco is low case . Tobacco wet like a dish rag is high case .

Case is what I kept seeing. High case, low case. Thanks, Ken
