I have a black thumb. No empathy for plants whatever, and I don't like to dig. So when I came in possession of a vial of habano seeds, I asked a good friend to be my surrogate gardener. She started 72 seed cups, each with half a dozen seeds. Even after thinning the herd, there are easily three times as many plantlings as she needs. I am contemplating sticking some in the ground here. I'm wondering whether our yard is suitable or what I need to do to make it suitable.
Our yard is a swap right now. But it never dries hard. Black river bottom. We are a rain magnet all year. Earthworms adore our yard during summer.
Here are three places my wife suggests I plant them:
This back fence faces the sun, but it's in the wettest end of the yard.
The fence you see here is at the west end of the yard. It's drier; but the afternoon sun would be cut off.
The area at the foot of the back porch, where you see some siding now, would be shaded in the middle of the day; but would get direct sun morning and evening. Behind the porch would also get rain running off the porch roof when the gutter overflows. A summer project would replace the roof with a longer overhang.
What do you green thumbs think? Where should I plant?
If I do plant beside the fences, how far back to I need to dig up and how deep?
TIA
