many thanks mark hope all goes well for you too what strains are you growing this year ?.

Knucklehead what would be the best tread to look in about seed storage ?.

Here's a couple: http://fairtradetobacco.com/showthread.php?2320-Another-seed-saving-site-with-silica-jell! http://fairtradetobacco.com/showthread.php?2310-A-site-that-sells-quot-seed-saving-quot-stuff http://fairtradetobacco.com/showthread.php?1707-Container-for-seed-storage http://arccjournals.com/pdf/ijar2-37-1/ijar2-37-1-002.pdf This last one is a study done in India. It is very informative. They were able to store tobacco seed for 18-24 years with high germination rates.

Thats great info Knucklehead thanks a lot from now on i will be storing all seeds with desiccant bags even if they last 8 years it will increase the strains of seed in the bank 2 fold which will be great i think i will still test the seed each year for safety's sake.

This is an interesting link. The short (8 page) article reports results from storing tobacco seed in ambient temperature, using a desiccant. Since refrigeration is widely unavailable in certain areas of India, the study demonstrates that even large quantities of tobacco seed stored with a desiccant can remain viable for at least decades.

I think the only thing that my be a problem is keeping the moisture content at levels that will no effect the germination rates of the seed, from what i have read to lower moisture content and the seed will die any ideas on a cheap way of measuring this ?
