That variety appears in ARS-GRIN as Pi 349332. 'Peremozhetz 83'. 1966. "From Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Seed presented by the N. Vavilov All-Union Institute of Plant Industry, Leningrad."

It seems to be a burley with a nicotine rated at 39.3 [wow!]. The name is actually Ukrainian (not even Russian), and means "Winner." (I believe it would be better transliterated as "Per-em-mozh-detz." переможець

http://www.ars-grin.gov/cgi-bin/npgs/acc/display.pl?1260653

I can find no reason to associate it with Latakia.

Bob

Bob, your GRIN link adds even more international confusion. It says the seed was collected in Poland, donated by the Russians.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/300-Taba...ochez-Orient-mit-ausf-Anleitung-/130593646160
No wonder i am a little bit confused

At 42 days for 50% of plants to mature, this is a good plant for those northern short season growers. Jojjas, are you going to bag some blooms and keep some seed? I'd be very intrested to add that to my collection.

Yea , that was the whole idea when i bought those seeds , but let me know your address i vill be honored send you a bag of them , i bought 2 bags just to share them one of them

jojjas and rainmax,
I would be particularly interested in photos of the Peremozhets when they're grown. Tabakanbau (and only tabakanbau) says that it's used for the production of Latakia.

It's a lot of photo shooting in plan for 2014.

Ok boys , here is som 2014 update with photos
This plants are all germinated at the same time

Peremozhets , they had lightning under an 6w led light

20140406_185448.jpg

Djebel , now have fun under the led
20140406_185633.jpg

20140406_185531.jpg

The 6W led light , specially suited for plants
Tried to take a photo with the leds on but did not go so well
There are 3 different colour leds , powerconsumption if it is on 24-7 , cost only 0.5$ a month
Next year i shall have at least 4-5 of them
20140406_185705.jpg

Peremozhets to left and Djebel to right
That led light most certainly have had some effect

Nice photos. Ideal, would be images of the mature plants (in a couple of months), with detail of the upper and under side of the leaf, the auricle (the frill near the stalk), the bud arrangement.

It`s been a long time sins last update , i have had an real busy spring at my work and other things in the category " must do before everything else" , but now the first plants is out
20140517_142958.jpg
ca: 50 plants , in the front 20 Djebel , in the middle 20 Peremozhets , and to the left side of the rubarb 10 plants of Basma

And if it`s going to be some cold nights , a blanket
:) , it`s not unsual that we have one or two frost nights in first days of june , not every year but it happens regularly
20140517_145613.jpg
And later this week , the rest of the plants (about 170 of them) will be out

You 're referring to the '' Ironnights'' jojjas , I had mine at Easter and ended up with most of my plants more or less froze to death. ( my fault )
Having problems with the slugs or snails where you live ?

Iron nights yeas
Nope,no slugs or snails yet , they are in the neighborhood but no interference yet, but last year earwigs eat att the lower leafs , probably because of groundcover , so if someone has an idea to block them , i am interested

I often get earwigs here too. The little bastards are a nuisance in the beginning but once the baccy gets a littl bigger they seem to move on. It helps to take away any hiding places from them. I used some diotamacious earth (probably spelled wrong) last year. pinch them when you see them.

No sign of recovery from the frost damage, yet? I had several Izmir plants savaged by slugs, and expected to have to replace them, but it looks like they are growing again from the very root.

An update , the "blankets" became usefull this year , just a couple of days after planting them out , 2 nights with frost in the early mornings occurred , but the cover just do what it should do , protect the precious plants , and everything is looking good
