Big Bonner last year said to break but not remove the top to slow down suckers. Its worked for me this year.But it has been a crazy year. yall late bloomersmite give it a try though.Flowers 004.JPG Flowers 006.JPG

Interesting idea. Fool the plant into thinking the seedhead is still growing. Does this still transfer the plant energy into leaf production?

Maybe top a couple and break a couple side by side and compare the final yield of the broken plants vs. the topped ones? Take into account any additional effort required for suckering and weigh the cost vs. benefit.

Don't forget that the tender growth on the hanging tip is attractive to budworms and aphids. Same with young suckers.
