If you feed the wick with distilled water, it will not crud up as fast, since most of the crud is from minerals left by the water after it evaporates.

I read somewhere to change the wick after every batch, That is large scale tho, Does it matter, Small scale?

Changing out the wick or just washing it well between loads is pretty easy. If it gums or crusts up it will run dry and leave you guessing what the RH is. For me, if it went dry in the first half of the run, it would be a big deal. If it went dry in the second half of the run, it doesn't matter much, I already know how much to vent.
