Yes indeed, the San Andres valley region. There are many additional tobaccos grown there, not just Maduro wrapper leaf though it is the "cream of the crop" and widely used by premium cigar manufacturers. The taste of Mexican tobacco, in my experience, is distinctive and can be overwhelming and dominate the blend. It used to be a government requirement that all Mexican cigars be "puros", but that changed in the mid-90's I think and importation of tobacco and blending was allowed. That was a good move imho.

Thanks on that, there may be something to "The taste of Mexican tobacco," years ago, a friend gave me a bag of tobacco, he said it was from Mexico, I don't know what part of Mexico though, but then when I started getting the tobacco I smoke now, I noticed it was very distinctly the same "taste" as what my friend had given me years ago.
