I've noticed a lot more interest in the N. Rusticas this year over last year and was curious about it. Is it because there are more smokeless members using it for snus and snuff, or because it is so high in nicotine? Anyone care to weigh in?

Potency is a big part, I think any way to reduce consumption while increasing satiation is a positive. Rustica was one of the first tobaccos grown by the colonies! We all love tabacum too, but Rustica has a definite "power", for lack of a better term, that I am attracted too.

Yep! I'd venture to guess most of us rustica users are pipe smokers for the most part. I like them for most of the same reasons as Jp, and I started with rustica just like the colonies. I love the rasin-like smell of a nicely cured batch of rustica!

I'm growing two varieties in my grow out, Isleta Pueblo and Mahorka #6 Yellow #109. They were the first to germinate. I've never smoked Rustica so I'm looking forward to the new experience.

This the first time for me growing any tobacco, but I chose rustica because they say it has the highest nicotine content, I will be using it for cigarette tobacco. Also, because supposedly it grows wild, or naturally in some areas, my thoughts are it would be easier, and minimum care needed.
I plan to let a lot of the plants flower and makes seeds, next year, if it does well, I am going to seed areas along the river, and see how it does, hopefully maybe some "wild patches" become established.

I think it won't be a bad experience (as a cigarette) but not a very good one too, I didn't find anything special in N. rustica. It has a hot spicy (black pepper like) taste and I think the room note is pleasant.

Mahorka tobacco is still a symbol of Soviet Russia, it was a WWII era soldier cigarette, and people are still smoking (or making different things with) it.

An old package of Mahorka..

A new package of Mahorka, looks like roughly shredded (or just crushed).

A kilo of Mahorka (20 packages, each of them 50g) is sold for approx. 70 dollars in this site.
