last year i used chicken manure for fertilizer,,,

well last night i was around a '' old timer'' baccy grower and he told me the high nitrogen content would makes the leaves more thinner and take away from thier weight,?

my big-gem did have some peper thin leaves with no weight at all.:confused:

so what he said may be true,,, he gave me the n-p-k- numbers i needed but i dont recall what he said, i gotta ask him again,

but has anyone else any input into his theory that chicken manure is not good,???

we were making some home-made sugarcane syrup....and i started a talk with him about baccy,,,,

the making of cane syrup,

not rally molasses,,,, but the '' skin'' that is scooped as the cane boils,,

you could use that to make some home-made beer,,,

we had about 7 gallons of it after cleaning the boiling cane,,,,

too bad i dont do any home brewing,

in the first picture is the big spachula used to get the skin as it floats to the top.

Here in my neighboring counties they make sorghum . It looks just like the cain in your picture .The cookers are different . There will be troughs all accross the cooking table . As the sorghum cooks it is paddeled from one trough to the next , New raw sorguhm will be added at the begining to keep the cooking going. Its good on biscuits .

Here is a link how its done here http://alarmclockwars.wordpress.com/2010/11/19/farm-equipment-fridays-cooking-sweet-sorghum/

Larry;
If you go farther north (Yankee) that would be Maple syrup coming out of that pan. Up there I think the whole set up is called a arch.
