Good idea. I'm 8 cages shy. It's hard to justify the cost of those flimsy things they sell for cages now. Heavy, box fence makes good cages, if you happen to have some of it.

I use the box fencing for the Beans, Peas, cucumbers, and cantalope.
That is if I get some time to put it up this year.

Hazelnut, ash, willow or catalpa provide nice, straight stakes. I keep the most suitable from the annual pruning. The thicker ones can be sharpened. They are stable, long and (where this matters) almost invisible.

By now I have staked almost all of my Oriental plants - the ones with proper support simply looked much better (+ less leaf damage). Since they are staked, the Bursas developed an impressive stem (counterintuitive, but that´s what it looks like).
