i built this tiller from having a frame.. and a motor,,,

ive changed carbs.. and fuel tank, got a new belt,,, a new muffler..

ive used it a couple of times but it vibrates so much, after 3 passes, i got to tighten everything back up on it,, [ it reminds me of a old harley ]

i swapped coils on it, and today i think the wire, i had wrapped with black tape, may have broke, [ i lost fire to the plug ]

i got a neighbour, who has a badass old school. 70's era tiller,,,, [ he had a stroke 3 yrs. ago and wont be using it no more, im trying to work a deal to get it from him... [ it needs carb. work,]

and let him know, i will never sell it, and anytime he needs something tilled, i will come do it,,

i want to get rid of mt frankenstien tiller, and get this bad-boy,,,

i looked up a picture of it... and the modern version of this tiller, cost $2,000.00

this is what it looks like, gear knobs and all. it's just the 70's version, but they look the same.

i got a decent tiller at tractor supplu for about 600 bucks, tills 22 inchacross and 10 inches deep. im hoping it will last a good long time, seems pretty durable, rear tine type, locking hubs, no reverse but dont see that i will need it. im thinking 2000 way to much, must be the troy bilt brand jacking up the price

I have that same '70's Troy Built tiller. It'll dig a hole to China if you let it. I saw a used one for sale 2 days ago for $250.00 in my neck of the woods.

As for your other tiller and its vibration problem. Does it have motor mounts on it? I've built up a fair amount of gas and diesel engine systems and never met one that wasn't tamed by a good set of motor mounts. They are cheap, 4 of them from Grainger's would probably cost you $20.00

im gonna try and get to his house today. and talk to him about it,,,

it looks to have a briggs and stratton motor on it, all i did was pull the cord to make sure the motor wasnt locked down.

i have carbs for briggs and stratton motors,,,, it may be a cheap buy.. and a easy fix,, '' im hoping ''

I've got an old one that was nicknamed the bouncing Betty, it'll tear up new ground like it's nothing and when you hit a rock it bounces right up and you need to hold on for dear life hehe, gotta love those old small engines.

I stopped tilling though trying the no till mulch method.

im trying to get a small john deere, in my yard but my buddy said a bearing went out in the harrow,,,so im stuck with my front tine tiller for now, still havent got down to talk to the guy about the bad-boy.

having tiller issues, is not a fun thing to go thru, espescially when you need to till.

I Realy like the rear tines because you can literaly walk behind with one hand on the tiller and a cigar in the other. The new craftsmans have a forward till also that I use to level the whole plot after tilling.

Most came with a Koler engine. If the carb is too much get a HF 6.5HP China knock off of the Honda. You have to keep the oil full on a little over for when you dig at the full depth the engine is way up in front and will stop when the low oil switch shuts it off.

I have the china knockoff on a gocart. runs good and 150 tax an all is cheaper than buyin parts. Some tillers have pully shafts that mount on to the motor.

in my veggie garden i have some grass wanting to come up... it makes me miss my weed barirrier i had laid down at the old plot.

the guy said my tiller needs a lot of work... but the diagnosis was good... he said when i get it back, it will be a dirt churning machine.

I ran the tiller yesterday but it was muddy and made a mess. I hope I can mulch it this weekend.

My old tiller was the same. Every year I would till awhile and work on it awhile. It .was working me to death. I broke down a got me a new one this year, it was the best move I've made. I hated to part with the bucks, but if your going to have a garden you got to have one.

I love my new tiller , but I really don't need an exuse to drink in 95 degree weather. Not doing the heat of the day but when your cooling down.
