One slight historical correction (no insult intended!): from 1580 to 1640 Portugal was under the Spanish Crown. And about all that territory in the Atlantic Ocean, international law only recognizes territorial waters extending as far as 12 miles, so is all that territory in the Atlantic within 12 miles of the Atlantic islands that are Portuguese sovereign territory?
Back to topic: those tariffs are oppressive! Perhaps if the rest of the world retaliated with comparable tariffs on European imports, then maybe your tariffs might go down. One can hope, I guess.
