Yer I read about this a week or so ago. More legal red tape and expence for the importers, it also gives them the power to seize the leaf if not stored or accounted for in the proper way.

But it's OK guys there doing it for our health!!!!

Yep it sounds just like what they have done in Australia, I might just bring forward my plans in moving away from the UK.

Hmmm.....the UK is not really socialist - it has a socialist health program. Commercial cigarettes are ridiculously expensive here, and there is quite a black market for commercial cigs. Supposedly, because of EU trade agreements, you are actually allowed to import up to 30 cartons of cigarettes for 'personal' use, from other EU countries, where cigarettes are less than half the UK price. I think it is actually illegal to grow your own tobacco in Australia since the early 1900's, no? In any event, the more the UK puts the squeeze on smokers, the more 'creative' they get to circumvent the regulations. This current government is doing all that it can to become so unpopular that it will be thrown out of office in the election in May. Good riddance to them.

Recently, Uruguay seems one of the popular places to move. However it's not my choice.

In Portugal we have more less the same thing since last year , in 2013 you could buy 200 grams of virginia leafs for 4/5 euros or 500 grams for 9/10 euros , agricultural product , we just pay one tax the VAT 6%.

So the lobby from the big companies start to work , and the government applied a new tax , 0.12 euros per gram , and tobacco not escaped from this new tax .

Next year this new tax will increase to 0.135 euros per gram.

So with this new law, the only option is you know very well the leaf producers, now me and my leaf provider we are smugglers :D , if we pay the new tax does not pay the work.

The other solution its seed our own tobacco , something i will try next spring, for the first experience i will try maybe 20/30 plants.

I'll be moving out of the Socialist state of Maryland when I retire in a few years. I'll be headin' to Virginia. I'll be close enough to Deluxestogie that I'll be able to steal his crop when he's not looking..

Also, look at taxes and Laws in Virginia first, might want to keep heading west. Although PA hasn't caught up to the curve yet we still have no OPT tax, but the new incoming moron might speed that up.

Move to South Africa, Being a third world country, they don't give a damn about about taxes and new laws, all the fat government officials worry about is lining their pockets, to stupid to think up new laws. BUT it got its drawbacks living here, lots of Sunshine, heat, beautiful girls otherwise not such a shit place to live in. Tobacco likes to grow here anyway, and nobody cares who plants what and where!!!

I live way off the beaten path in a remote part of Ireland. Sadly, the weather is sh*t, but unless the postman is your enemy, you can pretty much live well under the radar.....

They will get their way, the worrying thing is, that it will be against the law to even grow tobacco in the UK, and if you get caught it will be a big big fine !!. All it be is revenue collection.

Or you could move to Canada and join the 'eh' team. Tobacco laws here are pretty laxed. The only law that would concern me is restriction on personal growing. Even if they taxed the s**t out of raw tobacco, at least I could still grow it. Here in Canada, we're allowed 15kg dry wieght per person over 18 so for my wife and I, that makes 30kg.

As a matter of fact, ya all ought to move to BC. great weather for baccy and few pests and no horn worms...I repeat, no horn worms. We all could turn BC into a big baccy patch, lol.
