I ordered some viso, seco and ligero. Do I need volado as well? From what I have witnessed in many videos, it says that the volado is what gives the ignition.

Thanks in advance.

While the leaf types are based on harvest position from the plant, it might help to look at it as a guide to lead thickness also.

Volado: thinner
Seco: thin
Viso: average
Ligero: thicker

The thinner leaves in your Seco, can be considered Volado. For some reason, leaves graded for whole leaf sale omit the Volado category mentioned in many rolling videos.

There are zero major supplier of cigar tobacco that offer a grade of leaf called "Volado". If anyone sold a thinner leaf than my Piloto Cubano Seco, it would fall apart under it's own weight.

If you look at the names of the other site selling whole leaf, you'll quickly understand they make up names and descriptions as some kind of marketing plan. I've never read such BS in my life.

Ecuadorian Seco Shade Wrapper

Our Habano 2000 Seed Ecuadorian Shade is similar to our Connecticut Shade, but is a bit darker and thicker. Visually, it's almost like a cross between CT Shade and the CT Havanas."

Ecuadorian Viso Shade Wrapper

Our Habano 2000 Seed Ecuadorian Viso Shade Wrapper is similar to it's sister leaf, the Seco Shade Wrapper, but it is somewhat darker and thicker. Visually, it's almost like a cross between CT Shade and the 1DW Maduro.

Brazilian Wrapper

Our Mata Fina Brazilian Wrapper leaf is medium to dark in color, yet not too thick. This wrapper leaf is the newest item in our inventory. This leaf, grown in Brazil, is slightly reminiscent of the Brazilian Habano Viso. These leaves are smaller and slightly more distinctive in smell then some other wrappers.

These descriptions are designed for search engine optimization and are inventions of the author's imagination.

The ONLY way Mata Fina wrapper can be exported from Brazil is if it's riding on the back of a cigar. If it will make everyone feel better, I'll start calling me seco "volado".

Those competitor leaf descriptions are reminiscent of the usual tripe found in cigar marketing.

Volado (known as "flyers and trash" among American tobacco growers) brings a lower price than seco. I suspect that much of the nicer volado is actually combined with exported seco.

I agree with DGBAMA. Just go through your seco, when it arrives, and separate it into 3 piles: very thin, average, wrapper grade. Then you'll have volado, as well as a small number of excellent wrappers. I also separate wrapper grade leaves from viso and ligero batches. The number of blending possibilities expands significantly.

Any intact, smooth leaf can be used as a wrapper. If it's extremely thin, then be sure to use a sturdier binder beneath it.
