I bought 2 Google nexus phones for 200 each then went to eBay and got a sim card puncher for 3 bucks. At pure talk USA in the att network they give away free large size sim cards and have a 2 line family plan for $15 (all fees and tax included) with rollover minutes. These phones have paid for themselves over 6 months vs my previous plan. No data though, but I found I am always by a free WiFi hotspot (even here in Vermont) so data wasn't necessary.
After having an unlimited data plan for so many years I was concerned I might really miss it, but the only thing I noticed that I missed was using my phone as a GPS, but I already have a GPS so really that didn't matter.
I don't think I'll ever lease a phone again.
