I got my head today.
Got it together for a trial run.
Not good.
Flipped over the head and it works a lot better. He never mentioned if there was a top or bottom and I emailed him asking and he never replied.
It is up and running per say.
Motor needs a little more Hp. If I baby it, it works Fine.
I wanted to make a totally welded case but the way the head is built it might be difficult with my game plan.
The sides might have to bolt together instead.
Still thinking of upgrading the motor before I start Cutting the Chute and front and back covers.

Ha! I did the same thing with mine.
Thanks for Warning Me:D
I did some research on baldor motors and they make a couple of 1/2 Hp. Gear motors the same size as I need.
I just have to wait for one to come up on eBay. Priced cheap. There are a few but I ain't spending 400 bucks.
So the build has resumed. I have the bottom chute done. That took a good 3 Hrs. It is removable also for cleaning the Head.

I got the front piece cut now also.
I was hunting before when I posted.
The freaking neighbor decided to take his hatchet to his trailer for a addition.
at least that is what it sounded like from over a 1/2 a mile away thru the woods in the Rain. WtF:mad:
I gave up Hunting for tonight and went back to Cutting an figuring.
the bottom removeable plate was a real PITA.:(
I wanted it as close to the cutters as possible so no scrap falls thru.:(
It is like 3 sheets of paper away the cutter, Where is the feeler gauge when you want one:confused:
She is starting to look like something.

That is looking good. If I had a need for a shredder this is the route I would take.

I got the front cover bolted up tonight.
It took the twist out from the end plates.
Freaking Motors are driving me Nuts.
Everthing is either DC or three Phase.

Everthing is either DC or three Phase.

Which is why I went with a conventional motor and pulley system. Plus, if my motor burns up I can go to Sears, Harbor Freight and get a replacement the same day. I like your gear motor idea though. If I knew what I was doing, and had the patience I probably would have gone the route you are taking.

I broke down and got a New 1/4 hp. Running at 160 rpm per min.
It is 110 volt AC.
Paid 250 on eBay. List price is 585 from Bison
By time I bought a 3 Phase Converter or a Dc power supply for another cheaper motor it would have worked out the same
Price with more hassles.

I hope so.
The 1/8 hp motor I have on it, after the gear head Is putting out 48 in. pounds of torque.
That is just over a 1 hp. motor.
The 1/4 hp is putting out 91 in. pounds of torque out of the gear head.
That is just about the same as a 2 3/4 hp. motor.
The motor does work that I have on it but bogs down if I feed it too fast.
I don't want it to jamb up easily.

Amazing how cost add up - better a little to much power than not enough - jambs or worrying about possible jamming is a pain cuts into good smoking time.
