I ordered a head, the big one.
Dang the shipping is a Killer.
I was hoping to keep the build around 500 bucks.
That ain't happening. Head shipped is around 440 bucks with a extra set of combs.
Oh well no turning back now. I hope to keep it under 750 bucks and sell my powermatics that are like new:rolleyes: to get some money back. I still ain't got my gears from powermatic.
A couple of vids he sent me.

It'll be the last shredder you ever buy!
Now the wait begins.. :)
Do you remember how he shipped yours.
Mine is being sent Priority Air, he says like 3 weeks.
Is Poland on mars?
I have pretty much Everthing ordered for it.
Scored a New gear motor, 80. Bucks shipped. 500 if bought New.
Used Linear power supply since the motor is 24 bolt dc. 67. Bucks shipped. 650 if bought new.
2 used H type pulleys with 3/4 split taper bushings. 40 bucks shipped. 150 bucks new.
4 pieces of 1/4 thick 12x18 sheet aluminum. 118. Bucks delivered. eBay was more.
1 drive belt. 16. Bucks
I forward and reverse polarity DC switch. 14. Bucks.
I would say 60 bucks more in odds and ends by time I'm done.
I can't find the power feeder I want unless I spend 1000. Bucks. Ill find one Tho.
This Baby is getting pricey.

I've bought 3 shredders from him. The first was sent via normal mail and took 4 weeks and 3 days. The other was sent via Priority Air and took exactly 3 weeks and 1 day. The 3rd shredder was shipped on 28 August so I'm still waiting for it to arrive.

Where did you get the gear motor?

Ebay, Baldor parallel head gear motor. 1/8 hp. 15 to 1 gear ratio at 200 Rpm.
So it is a little over a hp. coming out of the head.
A/C gear motors are tough to get in the size I was looking for and trying to be frugle at the same time.
What is the third one you got coming?

I bought another 1.6mm cut manual shredder for pipe tobacco. I plan to just put this into deep storage. If in 40 years I need to use it, I'll have it. I think the future looks grim for anything tobacco related. It would not surprise me if 20 years from now it was illegal to purchase tobacco "enabling" products.

I got my Aluminum yesterday.
i originally ordered from Bethlehem Aluminum who I have a account with.
They called me back a day later a said there is a new rule, 100 pound min. For free delivery. WTF I just bought 2 sheets of 4x8 .040 last month for a van body, N/C for delivery. New Rule she says. I told her to cancel the order.
I got it on E bay with make a offer, cut to size 12x18 delivered for 26 bucks less.
I got the sides roughed out tonight. Not easy with a Cheap POS drill press and a worn out jig saw.
My neighbor with the machine shop that I had free use of went under 2 Yrs Ago. This is no fun but I like the challenge.

Could be worse, you could be working with stainless steel. Interesting configuration.
You had to say that.
I had to redesign a golf ball machine today to give out 50 balls when it was designed for 40.
There went all my new jigsaw Blades.image.jpg

Do you have a plasma cutter in your body shop? The newer models can cut aluminum: http://www.thefabricator.com/article/plasmacutting/dont-rule-out-plasma-for-cutting-aluminum
I got rid of those years ago.
The guys would burn interiors and Glass with the sparks.
They Cost me a fortune replacing damaged parts.
Spotweld cutters and small air saws with a 3 in. blade is all you need.
No freaking cutoff wheels allowed in the shop either.
I have been filing and sanding all day to make her look pretty.
The rest of the cuts are straight so I will run them thru the table saw.
My cutter head is on the plane according to tracking:)

Just curious but how do you think the cutter head would work turned 90 degrees so it fed from the front like a Powermatic instead of from the top?

That is what I'm thinking, You can see it drawn that way also on my side plate.
Untill I get the head into my hands. I don't know.
I asked for a set of drawings for the size but he referred me to the e bay listings.
I have a approx size. But will it grab and pull the leaf thru verses Gravity?

I should see my head in a couple of days.
It just got out of NYC customs.:)
I got the motor mount bolt holes cut out.
Not easy with a die grinder but turned out ok considering what I'm working with.
1/2 in. belt adj. that is why 3 are slotted.

Bit of a noob comment - the videos of the machine look great, but the only thing I could concentrate on while he was doing this was his fingers. It doesn't look like there's anything to stop you from just feeding that leaf in a bit too closely....so be careful.

I thank you for being concerned for me and others.
I will be using a push stick with this for shure.
I don't think it will tear your fingers off but I will leave that experiment to someone else.
