this year im going big MANY STRAINS ..ive expanded my grow area. and will be utilzing my designated garden spot to put some plants in also. my strains for this year are
samsun
catterton
bafra
yellow twist bud
yellow mammoth
bonanza
virginia bright leaf
big-gem
shariza
vavilov
bucak
kavala
tekeroy

this will be the most strains ive ever growed. starting them all in my greenhouse isnt going to work. but i have a 32 foot 5'th wheel camper. so im gonna use it with 2 ...400 watt h.i.d. lights, and all my c.f.l. grow bulb lights 7 c.f.l.'s

as of right now i have about 17 trays started. and havent even put a dent in all the seed packets i have, when im done i'll proablly have 28 + trays going, whats left over i may try to sell at the flea market.

heres what i got so far,

..IMG_20160216_205127382.jpgIMG_20160216_205135536.jpg

the next time i start a tray ill take photos so some beginners may see the way i start my seeds, i also went with seed trays that have bigger deeper and wider holes.
i hated buying them i mean i proablly got 20 floatation trays.. and a crap load of '' normal '' sized seed trays.
but i want my plants to have a lot of '' grow room '' before i actually plant them,

You will thank yourself for direct sowing later. With a few haircuts you will have robust starts and never have to headache with transplanting.

Chicken you have a interesting grow-list this year. I have a question:
Is your "vavilov" orient or cigar filler? In my first grow I had 2 different Vavilov one of em was orient and the other one was a filler variant. Both was really interesting to grow. But I mixed up the seeds and decided to not save em because of that.

allright i said i'd show my technique at how i start my seeds,

i begin by putting my potting soil in the tray.. leaving a little room at the top for the vermiculite,

..IMG_20160217_210712621.jpg

then i fill that gap with a layer of vermiculite. so the seed wont fall into a crevice of the potting soil

..IMG_20160217_211009918.jpg

i place my seeds on a saucer. and wet the end of a q-tip to pick them up with..trying to get no more than 5 seeds at a time

..IMG_20160217_211241755.jpg

i then take my q-tip and tap in on a pen kinda roughlly so the seeds will fall into the hole but also spread out in that hole
..IMG_20160217_211703226.jpg

i know we all do it differentlly but ive found that this method works best for me

HOPE IT HELPS SOMEONE..

That's pretty much my exact method. And of course I use a new qtip for each variety.

I just lick my forefinger, pick up a few seeds and roll finger and thumb and feel how many seeds i'm dropping. Saves money & builds up my imune system at the same time. No germs, no imunity.

Hello Poulet

The vermiculite is better that the ash? I saw that in Africa, they use the ash for the sowing...
Your vermiculite is very fine little ) in thickness?...

well let me share some photo's i took today.. plus it wil give you a idea of how bigger. my bacca spot is going to be this year... right now it's not completelly tilled and filled with my fall garden.. this is what i got in there right now,
turnip greens
mustard greens
collard greens
broccoli
cauliflower
brussel sprouts
cabbage
carrots
potatoes [ a crap load of them and more to plant....red potatoes..new potatoes..yukon potatoes..ash potatoes.]

heres my tater row, i got 5 rows going right now. and about 2 more to start, the yellow material on top of the row is '' dolomite '' lime is what some call it..land plaster,,,soil sweetner..e.t.c. they make it in different consistinces,,, the type i like is sort of like having a handfull of baby powder, it's nothing more than '' limerock '' ground up to it's finest form ''

..my tater rows,
..IMG_20160220_172324448.jpgIMG_20160220_172217310.jpgIMG_20160220_172211809.jpgIMG_20160220_172340222.jpg

... heres the size of the new plot

..IMG_20160220_172431127.jpgIMG_20160220_172236024.jpgIMG_20160220_172340222.jpg

and my new tiller i got for $ 25 minus the motor

..IMG_20160220_172449190.jpgIMG_20160220_172503058.jpg

..and this is my veggie garden spot... which may have some bacca shoved into it this year... instead of using fence post i used some '' fiber optic cable '' warning posts..[ ingenious ]

,,IMG_20160220_172731709.jpgIMG_20160220_172707299.jpg

i had to work today so i didnt get much done but tomorrow i should have the whole area tilled. and the last 2 rows of taters planted,

in the picture with all the tires, thats my plan for tomorrow. i got a wheelbarrow that has 2 tires. and im gonna take off the skinny wimpy tires. and mount 2 lawn mower tires on it,,, '' bad-ass ''

well i finally got '' some '' of my flourescents up...not all of them..but enough for now,

let me show you a little of what i got going on,,

i like to start the germination on my heating mats... but this year when i pulled the 2 out of the shed one of them isnt working which really is gonna slow me down. all i can get going is 4 at a time,

...IMG_20160222_225643303.jpg

once i get a little sproutage going i move them under the flouro's

..IMG_20160222_225507072.jpgIMG_20160222_225448295.jpg

ive still got a lot to start..and clear the spare bedroom. and get it ready for the 400 watt h.i.d. light, i hope it still works. its been a while since ive plugged it in. but im really not worried... it's a very old school light... it doesnt have a ballast thats digital... it's a analog ballast... a very huge version of what you'll find in a normal c.f.l.

i have a digital 400 watt light. but it went down in the past and i never really looked at it to see whats wrong. it could just be a internal fuse,????

when i get the 400 hung.. and all the trays in the floor... it's gonna be a impressive sight. and when i know it aint gonna freeze no more.. ill move it all out to the grenhouse, [ which i think im gonna need to add on to it ]

I'll be curious to see how they do. I bagged them from this one plant that was kicking so much ass compared to all its 13 brothers and sisters. I'll be growing mine from the same batch, and I'll save from it again. Do you happen to have any Pennsylvania Red you could spare?

Do you ever have any interest selling locally? I'm debating whether I want to start 250+ plants for the farmers market. Has anyone ever asked you to sell them any?
