No I have never had iq-miq, nor have I had the desire to try it ... it sounds dangerous. Snus is not a thousand times more potent, but the alkalinity which should be around pH 8.5 does increase the speed at which the active nicotine is delivered to the body.

The strength of snus is down to the amount of nicotine it contains which can vary from 6mg/g to 16mg/g - and that is down to the tobacco you use, leaf position and whether the flour contains stems or not. However - the perceived strength can also be due to how alkaline you make it with the sodium carbonate or potassium carbonate as it gives a bigger "hit" the more alkaline it is.

I use very ripe strong rustica leaves to make my twist chew with no added alkali and a portion of that gives a similar effect to a snus made with regular strength N.Tabacum flour but adding potassium carbonate. I will say that the rustica chew is a little slow to get going, but once it does, it is far more satisfying for a longer amount of time than any snus.

Could be the mushroom ash has a kick of its own for the iq-miq.

The more I learn about tobacco processing the more I realize I don't know much... given that batch #4 did peel a bit of skin when I tried to use it too soon after the cook must mean that the pH is pushed about as far as common sense would allow.

Batch #5 smells really good already. (taps on watch and looks at fresh jar of snus ageing in fridge...)

A sincere thanks for sharing the know how on this.

It's just nice to have someone to talk to about it! I would never have known anything to get started without help online ... you can blame the internet for many bad things happening at the moment ... but places like this forum and the ability to share specialist knowledge freely is one of it's very best achievements!

Besides knowing the fresh jar of snus in the fridge is going to taste delicious, why else do I think home made is so great?

Cost. When I run the numbers, my jaw almost drops. I bought a tin of Camel snus at the local store for use in the car and other places where I cannot use loose snus.
I paid US$6.00 for one tin. OK, not great but not awful I think. I used almost a tin a day (15 pouches) before starting to cook my own.
I measured the weight of the pouches. 8.8 grams, including the pouch material. Lets say 2.8 grams for the pouch material. Thats US$1.00 per gram.

Running my numbers, WLT comes to a little less than US$0.05 per gram for all lamina, dried and sifted flour.
The flour weight nearly doubles during snus making with the water, salt and sodium carbonate added during processing. Thats US$0.025 a gram for quality snus!
With the nicotine content on the high side, my pinches only need to be about half a gram for a medium sized pea. Thats US$0.012 per pinch. Awesome!

Guilt free nicotine delivery in so many ways.

Well first week in (of course I sampled some early and lost a layer of skin) it's finally converted enough of the base that it's done. Taste and smell is good, but thankfully as John talked about, not so good that I'll be sad that I can't recreate it:)

Just good, run of the mill, snus. I'm happy with that.

I tried an early pinch of Batch #5.
The cat sums it up fairly well. This is just varying degrees of perfection at this point.
Perhaps a touch too much nic hit. :D No drip as usual, no niccups or heartburn. Smooth as velvet. The nic ramp just keeps going on this batch.

Hello all.
Batch 14 or so is aging in the fridge. Time flies.
No changes at all to my method for the last 2 years.

As I said before, the best value added hobby I have ever had.

An interesting side note I found to share...

The founder of IKEA, Ingvar Kamprad was a snus user for over 60 years.

Cheers!
What is your recipe and is this spit free I use Skoal snus right now but starting to grow my own tobacco
