I don't intent to bore people... but I found two more pictures in the depths of my archives which probably illustrate my point better:

samsun-maden-01.jpg

A young Samsun-Maden plant. What looks like a bare stem from further away has actually quite a bit of leaf lamina attached. Leaves are initially more spade / heart - shaped.

samsun-maden-02.jpg

I older plants, leaves seem to elongate, and the leaf stem is very short.

The pictures I have seen of other Samsuns (i.e. "Black Sea Samsun") show a distinct heart shape and quite bare, longer stems in mature leaf.

Hence I wonder if they really are the same variety. I remember when I grew the ones above I was a bit surprised, since I expected something more Bursa-like.

My grow of Samsun-Maden (seed from JBD) was in the ground, rather than in a pot. It displayed a distinctly heart-shaped leaf. I'm not sure what to expect from potted plants.

The frill along the petiole is present on Samsun and Bafra and Samsun-Maden.
