It's Like Fiber-optics

This curious study indicates that some of the sunlight striking plant leaves is transmitted through the vascular bundles of the plant stem, in a fashion similar to a firer-optic cable, down to the roots. Roots contain functioning photoreceptors which affect how the roots grow and behave.
What is the implication of this? I don't know. But it's fun to think about.
This study was performed on Arabidopsis spp. Further studies will be performed on Nicotiana alata.
