Lots got planted this weekend. I settled finally on 18 Piloto, 18 Delhi-34, and 6 each of L'Assomption, Bezuki, Amersfoort, and Timor-Leste:Viqueque, Liquica, and Ainaro.

I also planted 36 plants total for my friend who procrastinates and neglects. They were KY8635, VA509, Golden Wilt, and Helena. He doesn't like it, he can get his stuff together.

Moreover, I planted 165 onion, 18 peanut, some tomatoes, and more veggies, herbs and flowers.

That's a fair amount of plants still! How many pieces did you grow last year?

I grew 140 last year. BUT, half of them were closely spaced Orientals. The year before my friend and I grew 195 plants at three locations. This year 72 plants should be nice and straight forward. The 36 for my friend don't count as this year he will be curing them himself. The entire plan is to build up stock and in subsequent years only grow enough to maintain a constant level. Next year I will grow even fewer plants.

I might be cut off from my seedlings for a few days. The door is frozen shut and I don't want to rip the gasket off. It's-31C this mourning. Pun intended.

Even if I did not understand every jokes (I'm french after all :p), it's quite funny :)
It's just a question of underwear size...

The coldest temperatures we had those last years was -18°C (0 °F) and I remember it was ... COLD ! :)

Holy Molly, I can honestly say I do not miss the cold weather up North. If ya can't get into your building and don't want to tear the seal why not use a blow drier and a extension cord? Just a thought but I'm sure you've probably already thought of that..lol.

The black mulch I used is wood mulch treated with some sort of carbon. It only lasts so long and gradually greys out, but I imagine it's safer than tires.

DerAlbertaner, I think I've got it much better off than you. Have you seen this map?

So far all of my varieties have germinated except for the Piloto. It's only been 6 days so I'm not worried yet.

Yes, Tutu, the Viqueques has germinated!

Having some Viqueque sprung to life is simply great news. I really hope you can bag them at the end of the day. Looking forward to more!

All of the varieties are up except for the Piloto. I'm worried. However, I should be assured it will all turn out ok because Bob has seen some germination. I'm guessing a shelf in Puerto Rico isn't optimal seed storage conditions. If I sent anybody these seeds, consider planting lots because viability seems low at this point.

Here's a photo of a Valencia peanut seedling. This is what I'm excited about at the moment.

I've never grown a peanut. On average how many peanuts do ya get per plant? Folks down here love boiled peanuts. Personally I can't stand'em. I'd rather have them roasted.
