I dunno mine were planted around the same size in the early bed, zero mortality, I did put out slug bait a few days before transplant and worked the soil to 14" though so water couldn't pool. I think he's got a chance, our growing climate is shorter but bug pressure is lighter than down south.

Second picture is 8 days old and half the size they are now.

The way I figure, they have a better chance to grow to maturity without the limitations of the potting soil and starter tray. They're already bigger and taller on day 3.
Slug bait is out, and as soon as it stops raining I'm hitting them with BT and Diatomaceous earth.

If I wait much longer, the bugs might not kill them, but the frost sure will.

My wife loves searching me for them! LOL
Yeah... My lady isn't that good at it. I've had two in my scalp, one in the waistline and by far the worst, one on my eyelid while I was sleeping.

Hate ticks.

We've had alternating rain and sunshine, and the plants are growing like crazy.
My size 9 foot for scale.

Rustica

And the little baby cornplanter, plugging along.

I have 68 of the cornplanters transplanted. Even if I have 50% mortality, that's more than all my other plants combined :)

Looking real good. Did I already ask you what strain of rustica that top picture is? It doesn't look like corn planter to me.

It's from BigBonner. I can't remember the variety off the top of my head.

Unrelated, I hate photobucket so much right now...

Oh! It might be one of the new ones. If that's tr6 make sure you bag, that was a new acquire from the grin and is looking very promising. It was bred for nicotine production by the USDA.... Enjoy.... Hehe

Went through my email because it was bugging me. Looks like the Rustica is Olson 68

I can't see the picture anymore but I don't remember it looking like mine, that's not saying much though as his starts add about a month of time to the grow vs me starting seeds. Olson 68 is the one I'm probably most excited about. It was one of the 3 top producing strains at the USDA developed by Otto Olson from Brasilia and Winnebago.

This might take forever, but I'm going to repost all the photos that were lost since Photobucket made it's money grab.
