New cigar roller here! I originally purchased my first tobacco shipment from LO, and it was a learning experience. Many of my cigars were too tight, but I still smoked them lol. However, some turned out to be very nicely done.

I am on my second shipment from LO, but I am not impressed with their pricing structure, slow shipping and will be ordering from WLT for my next batch. The one benefit of LO is their sample batches.

First Batch:

Ecuadorian Shade Wrapper
Dominican Piloto Volado
Dominican Piloto Seco
Dominican Piloto Ligero
Dominican Binder

Made about 25-30 cigars from 1/4 lb wrapper (Still had a ton left), 1/2 lb seco and binder, 1/4 lb volado, 1/4 lb ligero.

Welcome to the forum. Your cigars look nice. I personally started out with the good guys, WLT. (They run this forum, by the way). I joined the forum because I'm an amateur grower. I have been growing my own pipe tobacco for a several years, but WLT truly has awesome tobacco for when I'm in the mood for a cigar. I started out rolling 5 to 10 at a time, trying to make them look good with much frustration about how they smoked. Now I roll them one at a time, almost one a day lately, not caring if it looks good because it'll smoke well and taste great. Some guys on here have mastered the art, but that takes a lot of practice, which I have to put in. My point? It looks like you're doing great, but just in case, a little advice from a fellow novice: focus on making it smoke well first. You'll get the most out of it.

ChinaVoodoo,

Thank you! I will definitely take your advice and just keep practicing and learning. I have a huge catalog of videos and tutorials that I watch constantly. I am determined to perfect hand rolling before buying a former/mold. It will take a quite a few tries and experience..but what the heck? lol

Thanks again!

Welcome to Fair Trade Tobacco. I'm not sure if a mold is going to make them look any better then that. Rolling freehand is a good investment. If your at all like me, you'll end up with a bunch of gadgets.

Welcome on FTT ;)
ChinaVoodoo already gave you the best advice : don't care about the look of your cigars, concentrate on the draw :) (by the way, your cigars look very nice)

My cigars are often not very nice looking, but as long as they smoke well and give me nice flavors, that's all that maters.

They're looking splendid! For me, when I began rolling, they were always too tight. Then I started to fold the filler more presicely to better channel the smoke and since then they were a lot better. For me that was the trick to start rolling much more to my liking. China has it right, focus on your draw. And welcome to the forum!

That quilted mat with the floral pattern throws me back over a half-century to my Grandma Luna's home. That was back in the early 1950s, and those quilted mats seemed old at the time.

Nice cigars, too. Have a look at WLT's Whole Leaf Cigar Blends
