Hey everyone, spent some time wondering if this was the right place to post this issue. Not sure if disease or just a normal growing issue. The plants here are between 3 and 3 1/2 weeks old. On some of them the leaves are curling upwards or downwards and a few leaves have what look like dimples near the end of them. Anyone experience this in young plants? I've transplanted them once from tray to 9oz cup.

Those look like nice healthy seedlings to me. Keep 'em moist and give them light and you will be well on your way.

Also, next time you get ready to do this, use square pots. Square pots don't roll around like those round drink cups. This is something I learned the hard way. I had to destroy a few seedlings by having them roll out of the flats when I was handling the flats. Crash to the floor, and a smashed seedling. Drat!

Good luck with your grow. Tobacco might be a good winter crop in Fresno. As far as I know, it rarely if ever, freezes there.

Top Left Picture: Virginia Bright Leaf(small), Named Mix from SSC(larger one behind it)

Top Right Picture: Same Virginia Brightleaf

Middle Left: MD 609

Bottom Right: Havana 608

Here's a pic of the full tray

Middle Row: Virginia Brightleaf, MD 609, Long Red, Little Dutch, Virginia Gold, Havana 608
Bottom Row: Virginia Brightleaf, Named Mix, Long Red, Virginia 116, Florida Sumatra, Commercial Burley

so those dark indented areas as well as the curling are normal for this stage? These are all 3 to 3 1/2 weeks since seed was laid down

Wes, I have learned that with the cups already a couple times haha. It gets quite annoying. I need to look into squares, save some headaches. I have some more that are still smaller seedlings so I am going to try to buy something square for them

Must say those are some healthy looking seedlings. Your off to a great start. I used the round cups some last year and though they are cheap and easy. They do fall over a lot when moving a tray. Square ones take up less space and you can pack a lot in one tray much easier than the round cups.

Yea I've been looking. Anyone have any links to packs of square pots that work for them space and money wise?

I use standard depth 48-cell 1020 tray inserts for all my tobacco. JBD's link will get you there. The cell insert goes into a 1020 tray with holes, which is then placed into a 1020 tray without holes, so no water drips through to the floor. Beneath all of this, I also place a 1020 lattice tray for support, so that I can easily move the trays about without worry. For watering, I lift out one 4-cell tray pack, add the water directly into the tray with holes, and then replace the 4-cell pack. (My 1020 cell inserts are perforated for separating into 12 little 4-cell packs--like you see with nursery bedding plants for sale each spring.)

The naming of the various inserts (cells per "tray" and "trays per flat") is confusing. My 48 cell trays are labeled as #1204 [separates into twelve 4-cell packs: 4x12=48]. The deep cell inserts that JBD links to will allow better root development than the standard cell inserts. With the standard depth cells, forum members have used as few as 24 cells per flat, up to 144 cells per flat.

With my 48 cell per flat inserts, I clip the seedling leaves whenever they shade adjacent plants, and keep them in the cells until time to transplant out to the field.

I clean and re-use the various trays, but discard the cell inserts each year.

You can buy separate, square 3-1/2" disposable pots that will fit into a 1020 tray, but they take up an awful lot of room, and I believe you can fit only 18 per 1020 tray.
