Overall, a pretty good week. Lost another Little Dutch to the deadly Labrador Pee (RIP). Most however seem to be doing well. A few spots in the yard are showing some mineral deficiency so they are getting a shot of Miracle Grow this morning. That should give them a boost until I have time to top dress with my homegrown compost.

Niw, for your viewing pleasure, a row of little Dutch, some fillers, and shade wrappers.

You turn your back on the kids for one minute and then this happens! Little Dutch.

Keep the head on one plant for seed, and top the others. You will get some very big leaf. Little Dutch often tops out at a little over 3' in height anyway.

Man, this spring is flying by! I topped the Little Dutch last week, and have been cutting suckers ever since. But the main leaves are filling out, which is good.

I lost another 3 plants to the dogs :( This time it was not toxic Labrador Pee as the cause, but instead there was an unfortunate Squirrel Incident that involved much barking, chasing, and trampling of some innocent tobacco plants.

After that, I had an invasion of aphids on 8 plants. I'm talking like a carpet of the dang things. Mixed up some soapy water and tobacco stem extract and exacted some full metal jacket on them.

I picked a few green lower leaves from shade grown plants to make a few Candela wrappers out of. If the experiment comes out I'll post a pic. Flash dried them on the roof, then put in a 150F oven for 1/2 hour, and re-hydrated overnight. Will check and see if it worked tonight.

Pictures of one of the sun beds and a shade bed. Also, the wife got a hammock for Mother's day. Of course I had to test it out for safety.

Watching the plants grow.

(Anyone know how to rotate pictures on the forum? No matter the orientation on my computer, I can't get it to show up correctly on the post)

It's the image's metadata that needs to be changed. Download Xnview: https://www.xnview.com/en/

After you have rotated the image to your liking in your favorite editor, save it. Open it in XnView (rotate as needed). Save it afterwards, regardless. Now you should be able to upload it oriented as you intend.

Yep, I think I will need to start priming soon and harvesting in July! Guess I should consider doing a fall crop also...

“Well that escalated quickly!”
Some of my leaves are starting to yellow. Guess it’s time to start priming!

Not to argue with my elders by any means, but it’s 104f at 35% humidity. They are all a little heat stressed and there is much “ahem” floppiness in the yard

(I’m only referring to the plants thank you very much!)

Yes. Wait for the tips to get a bit yellow. When they are ripe, they actually get more turgid and develop an alligator-skin-like texture.

Well, I pulled a huge Homer Simpson moment this weekend. One of my dogs constantly sheds, so I have this rubber spiky grooming thing that is good for pulling out the undercoat to reduce the shedding. So anyway, I'm out in the back yard yesterday just a combing her and getting gobs and gobs of hair out. Now, it's normally fairly windy here and 99% of the time the wind blows from the South in the summer. So I just shake the brush out every minute or so and wind sucks that hairball up and takes it off into the blue beyond. Except yesterday... I was just a combing away and not paying attention to the wind until I was done. And saw that it had shifted to the SE. Just enough that my bed of shade tobacco for wrappers looked like it was covered in snow. White dog hair snow. :( Stuck worse than velcro! Took me an hour with the hose to wash it off.

Here is a picture of one of my sun beds. Time to start priming I think. For scale, the wife is standing in the middle! (with the non-shedding dog)
