You might be able to make a little Perri (sp?) this year. Good stuff.

Interesting. I did locate a wikipedia article on how perry is made: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perry

Apparently it requires special, high-tannin varieties of pears. Of course, straight pear juice is good.

Tannin can always be added to give it a tart finish, teabags, or just straight tannin additive from the homebrew store

But personal experience with cider tells me you can get great results with any apple juice even types not designated as cider apples. Shouldn't be much difference with pears. Worth a shot for a quart at least right?

I think the biggest problem with pears is that the ones around here don't have a lot of liquid in them. You get half the juice you would get from apples.

Nope, those are wasps. Good for hunting pest bugs in the garden but they're generally A-holes.

    Pumkini looks good.

I'm not a bee expert, but those look like hornets. Google "hornet", and look at the images page.

    Moonglow pears.

I have two "dwarf" pear trees. Today, I harvested just the pears that I could reach without a stepladder, from one of those trees. My guess is that this is about 1/3 of the pears produced by that tree this year. So, I still have about 4 or 5 bushels left to harvest.
