• Dear Guest,

We've been using a forum format called vBulletin for over seven years and the program is no longer being developed, so that means no more updates or security patches. vBulletin has never been compatible with search engine optimization and it does not support the multitude of various devices most people use to access the internet, so it's time to say goodbye to vBulletin.

For these reasons we have moved our forum to a new format that will support and encourage growth for the next generation of grower and DIY tobacco users.

After a major failure in getting my seedlings to grow past 2" tall I abandoned my 2017 grow which was to be my last depending on the results. I decided to give it another go and this year I plan to do a bucket only grow using Miracle Grow potting soil instead of garden soil with fert mixed in it. In the previous years I grew some tobacco in buckets and some in the garden, buckets used the same garden soil. The results in terms of growth were pretty good, I think I primed the plants too soon though not sure but I plan to go a bit longer between primings this time around.

I'm deciding on growing either Olor or PA Red or mix of both.

Question, if I use Miracle grow would I ever need to add fertilizer during the growing season or is the preloaded fert in Miracle enough to get good leaf production ?

Thanks

Good luck for this new year ;)
If your plants (cigar strains from what I read) did not grew taller than 2 feets high in full soil (with a little bit of fertilization), I think something might be wrong, it can come from a lot of factors : either the place is not good, not enough sun, trees too close, too much (or not enough) of one of the nutrients for example ? or maybe planted too close ? too much/not enough water ? ...

If you try to grow in pots, be sure to give them a big pot, or they will stay small.

Heading towards the end of the 7th week and they are growing rapidly especially in the last 5 days. Weather in Vancouver has been extremely good, high teens/low 20's (C) during the day mid teens at night, hardly any rain, only sunshine.
Nothing major to report, some seedlings got dried out and died, some didn't germinate and other still yet to take off. By the looks of it I may get 12 plants this season which is along the lines of what I wanted to grow.
The wife took up most of the garden space with useless crops , lettuce, beans, tomatoes etc. This year will be mostly a bucket grow and there maybe I can find a spot for 2 or 3 plants on the ground.

I think two more weeks and they go outside, I've been taking them out during the day and bringing them back in at night but I think I'll start leaving them out to acclimatize.
Next 10 day forecast indicates a bit chillier low teens at night.

I've never clipped the leaves off , is that recommended ? Better root growth ?

A little "hair cut" is good for them, it makes them grow stronger, with more roots and help them when you transplant them in the ground.
It is said to make them produce more nicotine too.

Lol ! "Useless crops" :D :D

I was wondering if anyone would catch that :)

Hair cut it is, I'll need to try that.

Thanks
