I'm going to have to relearn how to make a parejo. Been rolling with paper for so long that I need to figure out filling the head and capping all over again. No more tapering into a point for a little while....

Think I'll make a couple to leave in the mold overnight...

Tear off the tails, flip'em, lay some into the head and some into the tail-end. Jigger as needed. Cake. The main difference is that with hand-rolls you set the final draw at the time of the bunch; whereas with mold-rolls you set the bunch draw a bit lighter-than-final.

You're an old-timer, but since you haven't done molds for awhile, a little reminder that you need to get plenty stuff into the head area; there's a tendency of beginners (and maybe old-timers out of mold practice?) to leave the heads understuffed, and then they have to cut the thing shorter than they wanted to so they're closer to where the thing is well-filled. So you might as well over-compensate: easier to yank stuff out of the end of an overstuffed bunch than it is to unroll the binder and put in more stuff and then rebind.

maybe old-timers out of mold practice
That would definitely be me.

If I bunch 3 or 4 entire leaves together, then tear it into thirds, and stack them, the natural shape of the leaves always gives me the tapered head which I prefer. (I enjoy smoking a fat cigar, but want the head to be about 47 to 50 ring max.) If instead, I tear those leaves into thirds, but invert the bottom third when stacking them, then I end up with a parejo for a mold--still all long filler leaf.

I rant at the little bits and pieces that fall out of the opened head of many factory cigars, even really expensive ones. These tidbits have been slipped into the head to adjust its circumference to fit a mold. Even when I open them with a 'V' cutter, I end up spitting out that added "stuffing".

So, I'm not only an old-timer out of mold practice, I'm a cranky old-timer codger, and tapered, fat-cigar lover. When forced to use glue (e.g. for a gift cigar), then I bring out the mold, and just deal with it.
