Hey gang
I've been perusing some of the online seed websites. Most haven't been updated in quite a while.. Has anyone used one lately? Does anyone have any opinions or a favourite? Any Canadians out there have a hard time getting seeds across the border?

As a Canadian, I've only had a good experience ordering from Northwood Seeds.

I'm curious though, if there are tobacco farmers near you, and what varieties they grow.
I'm in Peterborough, there aren't any tobacco farms nearby at all. There used to be lots down on Lake Ontario in Durham county but nothing for abiut 25 years now. ..That I've noticed anyway! Doesn't mean they aren't there I guess.

There is a list in the FAQ of sites members have purchased from Additionally, one of our members @skychaser , runs Northwoodseeds.com
I don't believe there is a big need to update these sites often.

Id like to respectfully disagree with this statement. I would have liked to support a member had i know and saw the site recommended however when i went to the site and saw “New varieties for 2015” that says abandoned website to me.
I ended purchasing from elsewhere (at the time not knowing @skychaser was a member)

Since @Radagast also had a similar impression of the site, id wager there are other customers being lost by not having a website that looks modern and updated.

I hope i am not overstepping by offering my .02 and next time i order i will certainly consider northwood seeds now as a member here i see the glowing reviews from other trusted members and only offer this as customer sided insight in pursuit of @skychaser ’s success

Best wishes

I get what you're saying. My first grows were with an unnamed variety from a local seed supplier, followed by an upgrade in seeds from some guy in the Okanagan with an even more ancient seed site. When I discovered FTT, it all became clear that there were better options. With Northwood, it's my understanding that there are technical issues that are the cause of the 2015 freeze. A person who enjoys days and days of screen time, rather than field time, might tackle them.

However, those who know about Northwood are all vocal fans, and I do believe word of mouth is enough to ensure @skychaser remains overworked doing the things he enjoys.

This includes me if one were to happen to see any more my comments on this site..

That was before I knew anything about anything tobacco related. Now that I do I will state that there is no need to use any other service
For the record, since I find myself in question on the topic, I have had the most positive experience with @skychaser and Northwood Seeds and I continue to recommend it whenever someone asks. He communicates promptly, so maybe just email him with concerns as I did. In my transaction with him my package got delayed somewhere and when I asked him if that was normal he instantly sent me another order, free of charge (even though I practically begged to compensate him), sensing that planting season could be too close to wait for the mail. Above and beyond customer service.

I'm looking for the post where I have had anything remotely less than positive to say about Northwood and can't find it but apparently @Yultanman took one that way. I'm starting to feel shitty now. I did not ask to be included in any votes against using Northwood. On the contrary, I make an effort to recommend it.
In the future please refer to this, or any other of my positive recommendations for Northwood and @skychaser.
Please let this also exclude me from the 'votes' to delete anything.

i did not take you saying anything negative about him. Only that you were not sure about ordering from out of date sites. As was I

Zero negativity about anyone. Only details about my personal experience choosing a vendor.

Please please disregard

Again - there was nothing negative, no voting to delete anything. Just a point of view which was obviously not a welcome input.
I withdraw
