If you roll one, smoke one—especially if you use low case filler, and not worry about appearance or squeezing into a factory mold—you will learn to roll a perfect draw after about 10 to 30 cigars. If you roll multiple cigars at a time, and attend to beauty and caps and tags, and therefore roll cigars with filler in too high a case, then you have to allow them to "rest" (e.g. dry out) for days prior to smoking them. This latter, cosmetic approach dramatically lengthens the learning curve.
  • filler in low case (noisy, occasional cracks, but does not crumble)
  • binder in medium case
  • wrapper in high case

The one I smoke was a little too tight forbthe mold so that was probably some of the problem but the head was soft and draw was still tight so I think was more bunching. The filler was about perfect I think. Definitely not too high a case. I need to do some more free hand and test the draw after I bunch to get a better gauge.

I think this is almost presentable. I've found out that a single cut is all I need to get the transition done. Capping is always ... far, that's why I ended up with these batch of 20 with a pigtail.

Now using paper mold and having great smoothness after 2 weeks resting.

Bye

View attachment 40333A few wrapped up with the WLT Brazil CT 2013 Wrapper that used to be available. I wish this wrapper was still available! Amazing aromas! On the left are 5x 52 ring gauge. Right side laid out are 50 ring gauges.
I’m jealous! Wish I had brazil CT in my inventory. Just ordered some nica CT that I’m looking forward to. I couldn’t even imagine what brazil CT would taste like.

OK, with some inspiration from Mbatini and Deluxestogie I attempted a few small perfecto cigar/cigarillos. I use the diagram in the wiki but it still looks like I’ll need a lot of practice to get the angled ends without the wrapper buckling. Looks like I’m gonna have to do some video watching and some practice.FDE574FD-F361-4475-95E4-36E8F177FBDD.jpeg

With a cylindrical cigar (parejo), the entire, bound cigar lies flat on the rolling surface, start to finish. With a figurado, begin at the foot with the cigar head tipped into the air, so that the slope of the foot is flat against the rolling board. As the foot is completed, lay the cigar flat to continue. At the head, lift the foot in the air, so that the slope of the head is flat against the rolling board.

Just thought I’d say great job even if you need some practice you definitely produced cigars and I personally have yet to try rolling cigars other than lacking equipment I also gotta buy some leaf. But I imagine my first attempts will look much more wonk than anyones on ftt lol. I’d definitely smoke that though just love it and hope you aren’t to upset with your roll man. Good job

Thanks for the support brother, I am not upset at all, as long as it smokes good. I am having a blast and Thanks to FTT , Blisses vids etc Ithink I’m learning fairly quickly. I’ve got two definite blends under my belt that I’m satisfied with one I call PaNic (PA leaf and Nicaraguan) the other Matacaprica (Colombian and Brazil) . and also thanks to bliss Starting to get the cap part down. Here’s a pic of my latest blend in the making, apologies for the rapper but the rest is all whole leaf tobacco filler.

The problem with these is they take at least a week and a half to dry down enough for the KFC to burn well and not taste like the inside of a chimney. That said, they are my favourite cigar to make and smoke.

Rolled 4 more so only 6 total that I have rolled so far. Bunched 2 nights ago. I tried my hand at entubado. Was a little tough but got a few good looking ones and can already tell the draw is better. Was fighting the binder as I brought it to too high a case to get to lay flat enough and was tearing trying to get a tight bunch. Need to prep my binder the night before and let it come up to a lower case. The Lonsdale sized one went into the mold for about an hour and wrapped the same night. Was just a little small for the mold. The Robusto was just about perfect and left to wrap the next day and is probably be best so far. The shortie was what was left after tearing a binder really bad. The Corona was put in a magazine cover mold and left and wrapped the next day. I’ve learned that casing the wrapper too much on the spot leads to a darker mottled wrapper. The two that I left to case and wrap the next day are much prettier.

Damm! You’re a natural! I’ve rolled 50-60 so far and they still look amateurish. I’m jealous.
