Hi there,

2024 will be my second year of growing tobacco. This year I made my first experience growing Virginia Gold, Burley and Izmir Tobacco wich made a nice American Blend. Thing is I’m not a big cigarette smoker and I only grew them because the seeds were gifted to me.

So next season I want to switch to cigar varieties. I’m looking for a beginner friendly blend of strains wich are easy to grow, age and roll.

At first I thought of making a puro to keep things as simple as possible, but yesterday I smoked a Corojo puro wich was a little to brash and lacking complexity. But than again I loved the Plascencia Reserva Original wich is a puro from Nicaragua.

I’m looking for a medium bodied cigar wich is more on the creamy, nutty and cocoa spectrum as opposed to leathery, dry and what I would describe as dusty. Since it’s my first time I plan on rolling robustos, but I might try my hands on some gordos.

I’ll be having space to accommodate 20 plants, so any suggestions of tried and true simple blends are welcome. I won’t have the opportunity to grow wrapper plants under the shade tho.

So anyways, i have bought some Corojo 99, Crillo 98, Piloto, Olor as well as Florida Sumatra as those are the seeds i could get my hands on in the EU. Is that a usable selection?

Sounds like a good selection but i have no first hand expierence with the taste of these strains because my leaf needs still time to ferment. Dont know how much space you have but keep in mind that you will need some if you are really going for seperating all of the leaf positions. In addition you will need some fermentation box where the tobacco will stay for 1-2 months.
The strength in taste and nicotine you can influence with the ripeness of the leaf.
I had some nice leaf this year here in germany which definitly had a cigar vibe to it even though it was only color cured.
