Can i just use a regular electric grinder (Like a coffee grinder)? I am going on vacation soon and I want something portable preferably not electric but if it saves a lot of time and effort I could do electric, a lot of the manual ones I've seen have to be fastened to a table apparently.

I use 1/4" hardware cloth. I use dry leaves, crush them, run my hand over them and what passes through the screen does great in a cigarette or pipe. When I have my blend I mist it with a little water. Surprisingly fewer fines in the bottom than using a shredder. Very easy.

Prior too getting the powermatic shredder I would use a rotary grater. Not as good as you have to get the tobacco into a brick or cigar shape. Or the hand held you can get a power screwdriver and attach it.

I use a 5 blade herb scissor for the first cut to put the tobacco to sit and age and a kitchen shear scissor for the fine cut when I'm ready to make smokes. I'm kind of focused on spending as little money as possible for growing and smoking and it's been working great for me.

That's something I have done and it does kind of work. It was the best alternative doing it by hand.
