Looking forward to keeping up with your operation this year!I had once again decided not to sow too early this year, but to wait until April 1st, and this year I managed to do it
Sowed yesterday, and there will only be one variety this year, Sobolchskii 33. Planning for about 80-120 plants, planting out around June 1st.
Mixed the seeds in sterilized sand, as I have done successfully before, so the plants will not be so close together.
"Sobolchskii 33 is a fast growing and very early maturing light flavored burley, ideal for use as a cigarette tobacco. It grows to 6' and the very large, light green leaves turn yellow as the plant reaches maturity and begins to bloom. The plants produce 16 to 18 leaves below the crows foot, averaging 22"-24" in width and 28" long. Sobolchskii 33 has some of the largest leaves of any burley type, and ripens in only 50-60 days after transplanting. The leaf is very easy to cure and has a nicotine content of 1.8%. It is an excellent choice for growers with very short seasons. It is the standard type tall Sobolchsky grown in Ukraine since 1999. " / https://nwtseeds.com/Sobolchskii_33.htm

Beautiful! Are these going as snus this year or pipe tobacco?Today, 9 days after sowing.
Transplanted to plug tray. There will be 117 Sobolchskii 33 plants this year.
Have filled the holes with soil and some chicken manure (pellets).
Planting in every other hole so there will be a little better space when the plants spread out.

Tofta is a nice variety and makes a good snusThey seems to be growing fast. Nice to follow your blog once again! I have some tofta growing this year ( I bought the seeds after I saw you growing it).
Mainly for snus, but will try mixing it into pipe tobacco tooBeautiful! Are these going as snus this year or pipe tobacco?
I think "my" way works very well. Mixing the seeds in sand before sowing is also good, the germinating plants will not be so close together then.I think I'll try that seed starting method next season. Thinning takes awhile and I've noticed the more often I do it the greater the chance of injuries to the seedlings I want to keep.
