I rolled a stick of straight burley and cased with a bit of honey water before wrapping in tinfoil and sending to the oven for 30min @120c. The last 3rd of the bowl was by far the best homegrown smoking experience I have had to date and rivalled most of the commercial burley blends I have tried. It opened up into a beautiful and dry cinnamon/cocoa vibe.

I’m trying to work backwards to see if I can get the whole bowl to sing like that. Any thoughts? Longer roasting or retoasting? Drying the blend more thoroughly? Increasing the sweetness of the casing?

First pressed flake. I have pressed crumble cake but this is the first i have done of whole leaf layers. Essentially the first recipe with burley and VA quantities swapped and cased with Old overholt straight rye. I was anxious to see how it turned out. I have pulled it from the press and now have it in a plastic bag sitting under 50lb weight for the time being. Cant wait to try this one

@Davo i havnt messed around with any roasting or toasting so i wouldnt know. Sounds like.you are on the right track with what you are doing. I have a few burley sticks with some latakia in the middle i might try toasting and slicing. Or maybe slicing with cigar cutter and roasting the slices...might make for a more even toasting? Just an idea though keep plating and let me know how it turns out!

Previous posted plug out of aging and its wonderful! Enjoying it out of an old HLT Royalton that i just refinished. It taste like a really good blend coated in Virginia sugars. Lol i love how pressing melded all the flavors of each component
