Hi, the thunderstorm was here too, many of my friends who grow tobacco had their plants blown down. Mine did decently, they lean but none have come off.

I’ve heard that people all over Europe and NA have had a horrible growing year this year. The weather has been quite unpredictable this season. Your plants look fantastic though!

In most commercial tobacco production, the recommendation is to top when half the plants show at least one open blossom. In my relatively small grows, I usually top plants individually, after waiting for some stalk elongation. Simultaneous topping tends to synchronize leaf maturation for commercial harvest.

The earlier you top:
  • the higher the nicotine concentration in the leaves
  • the sooner suckers appear in the leaf axils
Bob

EDIT: It doesn't matter too much. I would suggest prioritizing your convenience in deciding when to top.

The weather forecast say we will have the most rainy weekend this summer ...Im glad fore my sandy soil ..my plants seems to do okay even with the low Temperatures. Yesterday I topped them all ..just saved a few fore seeds .
Now my biggest problem is ..they are long time to dry in this Moisty weather ...Maybe I have to prepare my Attic.. there is a lot of space with windows in both ends fore Circulation.
Last summer I promised the butterflys some kale if they would leave my tobacco alone ...i have done that ..have not seen them yet ..not in the kale neither.

Also here in germany the slugs completly destroyed nearly all of my crops just a few prileps survived because of the rainy weather.
Also my peppers were eaten its quiet hard to plant all of this stuff only for it to get eaten in 2 nights...
Hayden we have to hunt them all yer ...or find a clever way to fence our gardens.
