Interesting informations, I will search more info about these methods
I don't know if the wool is efficient (and cheap), but it can be something to try.
Don't go for high grade.
You can find the "cheap" or "rubbish" stuff, that no one wants on places like ebay.

I have used a 3-inch radius "mat" of lint from my clothes dryer filter to surround the soil at the base of a potted tobacco plant that had signs of slug foraging. That seemed to have minimal effect on the slug's activity. Of course, that lint mat was composed of mixed fibers, only some of which were from a genuine sheep.

3 inches isn't enough too.
The sheeps wool absorbs the moisture out of their ?foot? thing & irritates them.

My first tobacco plot was done outdoors & I used sheeps wool to stop the slugs & snails. It worked well. They got about 6 inches in and done a U turn.

Foe anyone who wants chemical free repellent for what ever reason,it's a good choice.

Thanks for your thoughts Bob. And Charlie, I have used crushed egg shells, my problem was snails, it slowed them down but I think that the chickens done most of the work. What you could try is, purchase some sheets of wet & dry sandpaper coarsest you can get.(The $2 shop is cheap as). Try it on a few plants and see what happens. I know that Slugs and Snails don't like crossing the sharp surface so maybe sharp sand Sprinkled around would work.
Cheers
