Husqvarna gets the job done :)

Then I'm back from the holiday in Cyprus and spent some time with my tiller today, hope to put out the first plants next week if the weather forecast doesn't change and show minus temperatures at night, but it looks pretty promising right now.

Planted out the first 12 plants today, KY17 only. 6 of them are ones I cut down to almost completely lacking leaves, and 6 are ones I cut a little of the leaves from time to time, when they shaded their neighbors. Have prepared the other rows now and now let all the plants stand outside, sometimes in the sun and sometimes in the shade. Tomorrow I will put out the other KY17 and also KY171, a total of 24 more. I'll wait a little longer for the rest, it's likely to be up to 200 plants, against the 120 I decided on. Strange :)

I would be concerned about planting in a furrow. Tobacco does not like wet feet and can drown. On the other hand, tobacco can withstand significant dry weather. Here are commercial rows with the seedlings in a mound between two furrows.

Article about drowning, wet feet, from University of Kentucky.

I did the same with my plants last year and it turned out very well. Now it may look in my photos as if the tobacco is placed in deep furrows, but it won't be that deep. At the bottom of the furrows I put a drip hose, then I put on soil, then I put the plant, so the plants are almost level with the ground outside. But as I said, it was very good last year, so I hope for the same again this year :)

Then I have planted 145 plants, and have room for another 48 as a reserve if the frost comes and kills the first ones. I am impressed by how big the plants get in their plug trays where the cells are 40x40x53 mm, where they have been the whole time without replanting. In one row I have 48 KY17 and KY171, where some plants have been cut a lot, some a little less, some not at all, and some replanted twice into larger pots. It will be interesting to see the end result of these, and if it will make any difference in size and yield.

That is going to be a beautiful field of tobacco. Are you sore? After planting I always feel like I've been run over by a bus. Great job! (y)
Thanks. I don't feel much pain in my body other than that my nails are cracked and that I got some damage to my knees. Next time I'll use gloves and knee pads :)

Now also put out the reserve plants, so in total there were 190 and 12 varieties. Have 18 plants left, will probably find a suitable place for them too :)

Virginia 509, Alida, Tofta, Virginia Gold, Gold Dollar, Havanna 142, Monte Calme Jaune, Prilep, Virginia Brightleaf, Björkö Burley, KY17, KY171

I am amazed every time I see a picture of your tobacco field. My compliments!

Thanks. It feels good to have gotten all the plants out now, then there are a few nervous weeks before you see that the plants are picking up speed, the feeling that they will all die is still there for a while :) But it went well last year, so it should probably go well this year too :)

First clearing of weeds between the rows with the cultivator, it works to run there until the plants have grown large. Took the opportunity to pick up more stones that appeared. Strange that new stones always appear even though I have driven through the same field for several years, maybe someone is dumping stones there :) found a small new strip that was free, so planted 10 more plants, so in total I am now up to 200.
