Seed I keep wet. but as soon as it sprouts I want to uncover it and and start drying out the soil. Seedling soil should be damp never wet. IF the soil gets to dry the seedling does not necessarily wilt it just stops growing. After a few days it will then wilt. I watch the soil and have basically developed an eye for what looks right. I let the soil cycle form damp to nearly dry on the surface then I water again to get the surface damp again. this can vary from once every 2 to 3 days to maybe once a week depending on how quickly the soil is loosing moisture. Tobacco does not require nearly as much water as you might think it would.
