Havent been on here in quite some time.
Been working my butt off for the last 2 months after my dads health news. Between working an outage job for non-stop long hours 6 weeks straight and trying to plan this move south , I'm beat. I'm anxious . I'm a little scared and a lot worried. I'm numb. I'm all over the place.
We were going to rent a 16ft POD (biggest they have )for moving then as cheap as I am ( I admit it) I decided a purchased trailer (20 ft landscape trailer ,tandem 3500lb axles ,both with brakes )instead and haul our belongings in it. We figured the Pod wouldn't have been big enough anyway. We built a 7 ft tall enclosed box on the trailer. My sons got a big Chevy 2500HD diesel hes pulling it with . I will be pulling a smaller tandem axle 10 ft'er. and will still need to make another trip back for the rest of our stuff and haul my bike down at a later date once the house here is under contact of sale.
I've had to decide after many many years of saving things ( family trait/curse) what to take , what to sell and what to toss and what to just put to the burn pile. My wife has an ability to just let material things go. We gave away the bedroom set yesterday morning. My wife had it for 18 years and just let it go,just like that. I just can't . Theres so much I can "use/save for later" .I used to do a cleansing of things I hadn't used in two years. For some reason I havent done that in the last 7 years. Parting with things I built of worked for isn't easy. Wife says we can get new stuff. Trying to let that sink in.
I tossed my kiln box to the curb,it was just too big to take with. but I'm taking all my color cured leaf with .Hoping my rolling table fits... somewhere.
Might have to just build another one, bigger or better anyway.

Local home sales are red hot right now. We're listing for $175,000. Should go fast as the other homes around us have done . Our realtor came by yesterday with the for sale sign and poked it in the front yard. This has been a good house. We found it as a long sitting foreclosure and we put a lot of work and nice upgrades into it. Someone will get a nice house without much necessary work to do.
My wife has at least 5 job interviews waiting once she gets down there. She'll have her choice of where to work I'm sure. The dental field is always good.
I'm switching carpenter locals and hope to get on somewhere soon, but may have to travel .

So, to the FTT Alabama tobacco guys. Look for me and my boy sometime late afternoon tomorrow pulling trailers heading down to Grant .
Pray we have good weather and no incidents.

BTW - Gen/Pres U.S. Grant's father had a print shop in Galena IL and a tiny rural town in Alabama ends up being named for the General.

I'll post when we get settled and internet

Letting go of stuff is kinda hard for us guys but a big move like that ya just have to thin out the load. Bama weather has been pretty wet lately. I think the area has almost recovered from the drought last year. Best of luck to ya SH. Have a safe move.

Had a lapse of judgement... after my son and I had loaded the big trailer that my son was sure his truck could handle ,we went to lower the dolly to hitch it up ... and it wouldn't. Both our faults, mainly mine. SO- luckily we found a rental Penske truck readily available that will and will split the load from the trailer, and then we can take more stuff too. Stuff we had really wanted to take but were very disappointed that we couldn't before this. Th bike may go on the trailer now. AND I was able to shove all my tobacco in too.
Picking it up at the Home Depot just around the corner in a couple hours...minor setback but a much safer one.
Should be on the road tomorrow.
Nothing with this move has been cheap ,easy or on time .
Thanks for the well wishes guys.
