I was trying to be funny.

I have one more and then I'm done, does it give off methane gas it would make it burn better.

Like i said mine is smelling better I will give it some more time and use a lower percentage in any blend I try.
I think I didn't dry all the leaves consistently so maybe it has acclimated a bit also the case is a bit above low I will bring it down a bit more.

There are some interesting opinions in this thread.

I'm sitting here laughing. This reminds me of the funniest thing I've ever heard.
Q: What's the difference between men and women?
A: When a woman tells you to smell something, it usually smells good.
So true.
My wife actually said it now smells like a tobacco her father smoked when she was young maybe he smoked a VA / Perique blend not sure.
I am not whipped but I do respect her opinion after 43 years.

An update. After the vacuum bag has been opened for 4-5 days, though in another zip plastic bag at 72ish degrees, the fecal smell is less evident and a hint, but only a hint, of fruity, raisin, etc is coming through. This might actually work. I pulled half of the bag out to dry for the day. About half of what I got out was in leaf form and the other half was more like a tobacco paste.

Just a note: I think most if not all of us commenting here are smoking perique, not chewing or dipping it. I dip and chew plenty and I've never tried chewing or dipping perique. Maybe I should, but it's a little on the pricey end compared to other tasty tobaccos more conventionally used for chew. Not trying to discourage you from trying chewing it, you might discover something new, but just a heads up. Keep us posted either way!

You might be able to get a sample.
OK one more, keep some breath mints handy.

Allow it to dry down to low case. Once blended with other tobaccos, like flue-cured Virginia, it takes on a completely different character as a pipe blend. Good starting ratios:
  • Lemon VA: perique 5:3
  • Red VA: perique 2:1
It completely removes the tongue bite of flue-cured tobacco.

Bob
I agree with Bob, no tongue bite and I've never heard anyone tell me it is bad smelling.

During the processing of perique the tobacco does have a manure or sour odor. If it has been properly processed it may have a "buggy" odor, but well processed perique should smell like figs.
