I'm going to ask a difficult (perhaps inapplicable) question. If you look at our New Growers' FAQ, item #4 [What tobacco varieties should I grow?], it describes the USDA use classes. Would you have any idea of which uses class Tofta might best approximate?
Thanks,
Bob
I don't know more than the information by the seller of the seeds and only the gods know how accurate that is.
I bought the seeds from here:
Tobaksfrö Tofta som härstammar från gamla Svenska tobaksodlingar i Skåne

Translated description:
Tobacco seed Tofta DAC217
It is one of two really old Swedish variants that are a little unclear
when and how it came to Sweden. But it is said to have gotten its name
from Toftagård in Yngsjö, where it was grown at least from the 1920s
until 1958 (then it was replaced by Åhus tobacco, which is also
called Alida).
The tobacco you get from this variety is of a darker type and
could be a remnant of an old Dutch variety. But in the
areas around Åhus it has long been cultivated and then not only as a
variant, but it also gave its name to the Swedish type "Tofta type"
which together with "Djubeck" was grown in the fields and in the
gardens where there was room.
The variant is found under the following names:
Belongs to Family:
Solanaceae, Nightshade family

You know more than me what that means, I can translate with som assistance by google but that is all. I guess it has been harvested green (dark) and usually either fire cured or air cured.
I am planning to give it a light nutrient regime so the leaves turn yellow on the plant and then harvest.
