On july 5 2010 the smokers in wisconsin bent over and took it up the tailpipe. The granola eatin water drinkin bicycleriding bunnyloving treehugging sonsabitches got thier INDOOR SMOKING BAN! Heck, I can understand not smoking at church, gas stations, school, hardware stores, post offices, grocery stores, airplanes and other public places. But now we can't smoke in tavern's!!!! it just aint right! beer and cigarettes go good together.
We have learned to adapt. Go outside and have a smoke.

Now in northwestern Wisconsin we have a very serious forest fire hazard. Outdoor burning is banned in some countys and if it gets any drier smoking outside will be banned too. This I understand, careless smoking outdoors can and has started many forest fires. I have seen forest fires up close and personal and forest fires are ugly.

What a unique situation, can't smoke inside/cant smoke outside.

How about smoking in your car? If you are INSIDE the vehicle, and the vehicle is OUTSIDE, then technically speaking where exactly are you? LOL

Not smoking in your car in high risk wild fire areas has been the law out west for as long as I can remember, but like DrBob suggested, it 's understandable...not smoking in a bar isn't.

The do-gooder's in Ohio used the occupational hazard argument here. If you use that logic, fire should be banned if cooks get burned, cars should be banned if cab driver get hurt in an accident. The list of comparisons is endless.

If somebody chooses to work in a bar, they accept the risks that are associated with the job...just like every other job on the planet.

Smoking in the car is not the problem, it's when some idiot tosses the butt out of the window. There is already a law for that: Littering. And of course the offender is responsible for any unintended consequences that action produces up to it's final conclusion.

The problem with legislating common sense is that common sense is the first thing to go out the window. This is how you end up with laws that (IMHO) now infringe on my rights. I don't flick my butts out the window, however I am now saddled with a law that restricts my pursuit of happiness.

OK, rant over, LOL........... I need a cigarette

Yep and next it will be illegal to smoke in your own house. The penalty for getting caught is confiscation. Then they'll give it to an "undocumented immigrant" drug dealer.

Yep, no smoking in any building in AZ except for private residences and smoke shops. Some cities have ordinances about smoking in public. Also, you must be at least 25 feet away from the entrance or exit of a business to smoke.

Perhaps, but there is a big difference here. Allowing smoking is not necessary to run a bar- everything else you listed is absolutely necessary for the occupation listed to some degree or other. Your examples would be more akin to them banning alcoholic drinks in the bar case. Now, if they are going to use the occupational hazard argument on tobacco- does that mean they can ban tobacco from cigar club rooms and hookah lounges? That would hold. If they don't- you kind of have a bit of an inconsistency.

We have a county wide ordinance here against smoking in public (inside or out). I think smoke shops are the only exception.
