Veggie acre plowed today. Seeds have all arrived...it's go time this weekend! Based on our success with Milpa gardening last year we've got about 35 lbs of extreme variety. Some things will grow now, some later, and some not at all, we will adjust the mix accordingly next year. We will mix them all up (except the corn) and throw them in the seed drill.

Looking forward to seeing this in full glory this summer. I did something similar (on a MUCH smaller scale) last year and really enjoyed it.

Out of curiosity, how do you adjust the drill for a mix of all different sizes of seeds? I would be worried that if you set it deep enough for the larger seeds, the small ones would not be able to make it to the surface upon germination.

I just set it at about an inch and a half and hope for the best. I have really sandy soil so most things can make it up even if they are a bit deep.

Does this count as a picture of my garden? Seeds are in and drip kit showed up today. Waiting for emergence is always a nervous time.

I'm curious what you will do with the massive quantities of unidentifiable veggies (all mixed together), once they are harvested.

Bob
What we don't eat or store, or give to our family and friends, we donate to our local meals on wheels.

Last fall we donated over 700 pounds. Hoping to double that or more this season.

How many workers will be required to harvest your tomatoes? Are they determinate or indeterminate?

Bob

They are all indeterminate but the summer heat come June or July will end their productivity. The workers will be three, myself, my wife, and my daughter. The harvesting is pretty easy as long as I keep up with the pruning and trellising...I never fully do and some harvest ends up suffering.

Today, I "started" my tomatoes in a 3" pot. When I opened the 2020 seed packet, I realized that the only reason there were still seeds in that vintage, paper packet was because 7 of the very tiny seeds were stuck to the adhesive at the bottom. I used a blunt tool to liberate them—likely damaging at least some of them in the process. Since I actually want only one of the prolific, indeterminate, yellow pear tomato plants, I started them all in the same 3" pot, in 5 separate divots. Maybe one will germinate.
